What is telecare?

What does the package consist of?

Our basic package consists of an alarm base unit, which has an emergency button built into it and a pendant, which you can wear around your neck or wrist.

How does it work?

The equipment is linked via your phone line to our monitoring centre which is staffed by trained operators 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

How do I activate the alarm?

If you need help you simply activate the alarm by the pressing the pendant or the alarm on the base unit. A signal is then sent directly to our care centre and answered by an operator who will know who you are, where you are and has access to your emergency contacts. Your emergency contacts may be a relative, neighbour or a close-by friend, who can get to you quickly. In an extreme emergency this could be police, ambulance or the fire service.

What happens when I activate the alarm?

Each alarm unit has a sensitive microphone; you will be able to speak to an operator without even having to be next to the base unit. The operator will be able to organise assistance and the appropriate help even if you are unable to communicate with them.

Who provides it?

The service is managed by Mole Valley District Council (MVDC). MVDC’s telecare service is accredited to the Telecare Services Association Code of Practice and is a founding member of Surrey Telecare.

What range does the alarm have?

The pendant works even if you are in a different room to the base unit or in your garden (approximately 80-100 foot away). An adaptor is also available which allows those with limited strength to operate the pendant. Additional sensors can be connected to other existing alarm equipment, which can be used to alert us to various situations regardless of whether you are at home or away from your property.

How do I maintain the alarm?

A team member will visit at least once a year to check both the equipment is in good working order and your details are all correct and up-to-date. However, it is important to make a test call at least once a month to check the equipment, this will help to identify if there are any faults.

How much does it cost?

If you are eligible for our help, there is no charge for the provision, installation and maintenance of equipment provided by us. There is a small charge for the monitoring and you may be asked to contribute towards this.
